McNally Robinson Booksellers on Grant Avenue in Winnipeg is the host site for the official Winnipeg launch of Indigena Awry, the first book of poetry from Annharte in almost a decade. The launch takes place on Monday, April 22, in the Travel Alcove — the perfect location for a First Nations writer living in Winnipeg.
Originally from Little Saskatchewan First Nation in central Manitoba, Annharte a/k/a Marie Baker lived for a number of years in Vancouver, before returning to Manitoba to settle in Winnipeg. Writer, educator, performance artist, granny, student, she is the author of Being on the Moon (1990), Coyote Columbus Cafe (1995), Exercises in Lip Pointing (2003), and a book of essays, AKA, forthcoming from Capilano University Editions.
Admission to Annharte’s McNally Robinson launch is free. The event gets underway at 7:30. Here’s a link to more info about the launch on McNally Robinson’s own site. Many thanks to McNR for organizing!
